“Shouldn’t it be possible to conceal a house in an Alpine slope while still exploiting the wonderful views and allowing light to enter the building?” This was the questions architects at SeARCH and Christian Muller Architects asked themselves when developing the Villa Vals. Their challenge was to construct a modern home close to the world famous thermal bath of Vals, without disturbing the bath’s view. Set amidst the more traditional mountain houses, this “underground home” is so unobtrusive without loosing out on this amazing Alpine view…The interior is not too shabby either, furnished with the works of Dutch designers Hella Jngerius, Demakersvan and Claudy Jongstra…Check out more details about this project of Netherland architects at SeARCH and Christian Muller Architects at their sites.
So, the sun finally came out today after a couple weeks straight of gray skies, rain and snow. And here at the (echo)witness office we immediately put on some music that would reflect our euphoria. Bedouin Soundclash is one of the bands that never steers us wrong. They mix in a bit of rock and a bit of pop with an extensive knowledge and strong foundation of classic ska and rocksteady, while keeping it true to the old-timey tunes we love. We have had a lot of requests for new music lately and while they aren’t a new band, they do deserve a bigger audience here in the states. Check ‘em out at their site, here.

Dimitrios Tsigos designed this mind-bending bar at the George Lycabettus Hotel in Kolonaki, Athens. The shape and forms of traditional tables and chairs seem to flow out of the floor in one fluid movement. If only we lived closer to Athens! Check out his website, here…and see some of his residential projects which are equally breathtaking.
Architect Tommie Wilhelmsen‘s office is located in Stavanger, on the west coast of Norway. According to Tommie “Essential is the belief that a good house can change your life. Good architecture is a place that’s never easy to leave.” One thing I know, if this were our place to call home, we would never want to leave…check out his website (including many more amazing projects) on his site, here!
